DVR Systems FAQs

What is a DVR System?
A DVR system is a computer that views and records footage from up to 16 cameras (depending on the model you order). The computer is basically a normal computer with special hardware and software that allows you to connect your cameras to the back of it through PCI slots (this is the same type of slot commonly used for modems and LAN cards). You use the computer as pictured above to view and record your surveillance footage. The footage is simply stored to the harddrive.

What is Remote View?
Remote view is a feature built into both lines of our DVR systems that allow you to view your DVR system from any computer with an internet connection. You simply enter the IP address of your DVR computer, enter your username and password, and you can then view both live and recorded footage.

What is a frame rate?
The frame rate of a card is how many frames per second it will show. The higher the frames per second (fps), the smoother the picture, and the faster your computer will run out of harddrive space. Normally, 30fps is considered realtime, meaning the picture is not jerky. Simply put, the frame rate per each camera will be the frame rate of the card divided by the number of cameras. Example: 120fps card, 4 cameras=30fps for each camera.
